Decarbonization
Building on our emissions redaction tar-gets set In 2022
Building on our emissions redaction tar-gets set In Building on our emissions reduction targets set in 2022, we are committed to accelerating our decarbonization efforts through Group-wide energy and emissions reduction initiatives. Our decarbonization plans are supported by regular energy audits, the systematic roll-out of energy-efficiency initiatives and asset enhancements, and new opportunities associated with green buildings and renewable energy. In 2023, we expanded our GHG inventory to include a broader coverage of emissions based on materiality especially Scope 3 emissions. We extended our scope 3 coverage where now it extends to cover a total of six categories (1, 3, 5, 6, 11, and 13). We plan to consistently enhance and broaden our Scope 3 disclosures to more comprehensively reflect the emissions across our value chain. We have obtained EDGE green building certification for Lippo Mall Puri and Sun Plaza Medan and are in the process of assessing Greenship and Edge certification eligibility for more assets in our operational portfolio. We have completed multiple feasibility and site studies for rooftop solar photovoltaic and are in the process of installing solar across our portfolio of assets.
Water Stewardship
Given the high levels of water stress in Indonesia, we have developed capabilities to leverage sustainable water sources in our areas of operation
Given the high levels of water stress in Indonesia, we have developed capabilities to leverage sustainable water sources in our areas of operation. We continue to enhance our capacity to tap on harvested rainwater and recycled wastewater to reduce freshwater withdrawal. Lippo Village launched a new wastewater recycling facility in 2023, to treat and transform wastewater into clean, non-potable water. Currently, the facility operates at a capacity of 25 liters per second (lps), with a target of reaching an ultimate capacity of 100 lps to meet rising demand. San Diego Hills Memorial Park has achieved almost 100% water circularity by leveraging its water bodies for rainwater harvesting and runoff water retention. Its lakes are not only landscape features but serve as a water source for its onsite operations. Across our managed assets, we also conduct periodic maintenance of water systems and regular physical checks, to identify and fix leakages early.
Waste Diversion
We have reviewed our waste management processes for different types of waste generated across our operations, including domestic waste from commercial and residential areas, medical waste from our hospitals, landscape waste from township management, and construction waste from project development. Our strategy for waste management centers on optimizing resource efficiency, minimizing waste generation, and enhancing recycling rates to contribute to the principles of a circular economy In 2023, we recycled 3,200 tons of waste across our business units. There was an increase in waste diversion volume due to improvements in waste reporting by several business units, tenant engagement to recycle waste by Lippo Malls and our townships, as well as increased landscape waste composting and bottled waste recycling. Recycling initiatives: Working with domestic waste vendors to separate recyclable waste such as plastics, paper, cardboard, aluminum, and glass bottles. Commenced a study to measure used cooking oil (UCO) waste at several properties, to be collected for UCO recycling vendors. Composting for landscape waste to produce fertilizers that can be used in landscaping activities. Piloting small-scale composting initiatives to process food waste onsite. Recycled medical waste such as syringes, chemical bottles, infusion bags, and disinfectant packaging in line with regulatory standards.
